A debt consolidation loan is not always a bad thing

When most people think of a debt consolidation loan, they think that they must be in a dire financial state to consider one. However, even if you are not behind in your debts you can still benefit from a consolidation loan. Debt consolidation loans are when you take your current debts and put them into one loan.

The average American has 8 credit cards, will carry an average balance of $8000 and more than 60% will carry a balance on them. The interest rate on these credit cards can vary greatly very from very low to very high, with an average rate of 18%. With these stats it easy to see, by consolidating your debt into one loan you will reduce your interest rate, therefore saving you money. It’s a good thing!

You may also consolidate personal loans, by themselves or with your credit cards debts. When consolidating with a home equity loan, you will receive the best rates as your home is used as security. When you consolidate your debts, you will benefit immediately with saving money by obtaining a lower interest rate and you gain more disposable income as your payments will be reduced.

The key to success when you do any type of consolidating is not to seek further debts until the consolidation loan has been paid off. This includes, but not limited to, reusing your credit cards. Credit cards make it way to easy to get in over our heads very quickly, so use them wisely. You really only need one or two major credit cards at the most; keep them for emergencies only; you will not get over extended in debt again. Otherwise you will get yourself further in debt and you will receive none of the benefits from consolidating.
